"Steroid Era" Worthy of The Hall?

In this week’s blog entry, I would like to take a break from discussing the economy and talk about baseball. With the opening of spring training only a few days away I think it’s a great time to generate some sports discussion. I am sure everyone is now aware of the current A-Rod steroid saga. This brings up a few big questions, are these “cheaters” worthy of the Hall of Fame? Should their records count? Or be wiped away?

Below is a list of some of the top “Steroid Era” players. Do you think they are worthy of the hall of fame? Keep in mind, history has told us (3,000 Hits) or (500 Home Runs) or (300 Wins) have always guaranteed a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Barry Bonds (Career Stats)
2,935 Hits / 762 HR / 1996 RBI / 298 BA

Mark McGwire
583 HR / 1414 RBI

Sammy Sosa
609 HR / 1667 RBI

Rafael Palmeiro
569 HR / 1835 RBI

Roger Clemens
354 Wins / 4672 K’s / 7 CY Young’s

Ever since Lenny Dykstra left the Mets and gained both 50lbs of muscle and 15 HR’s a year, I knew baseball was messed up. Though this will never happen, I think Selig and the owners need to finally take a tough stance against the players. Every record broken from 1990 till 2008 should be asterisked with “Steroid Era”. There needs to be a much tougher drug testing policy, similar to the Olympics. Any player who has admitted to or has been found to have used steroids should be banned from the Hall of Fame. This is the only way we can send the right message to the kids that idolize these players.

I disagree, guys like Bonds and Clemens were great player before they took roids. They clearly would have gotten into the hall of fame regardless. I am of the opinion that they should start to have a better testing policy but also act like these guys never took steroids and just move on. Let the records be the records and put these guys in the Hall of Fame.

I agree with Tim on many levels. Pete Rose broke the rules, and he is paying the price by not being allowed into the Hall of Fame. Steroids was always against the rules, and now these guys should have to pay the price. Bring back Roger Maris's 61Hrs.

Money,money,money...has ruined the game..year to year you never know whose going to be on what team. Most players do not give an honest effort for most of the season because they have guaranteed contracts..

Maybe this recession will bring a few of the owners and or players back to reality.
